An Italian fashion house founded in Milan in 1978 by Gianni Versace, instantly recognisable by its Medusa emblem and bold baroque prints.
About Versace
Gianni Versace, working alongside his siblings Santo and Donatella, launched his eponymous label in Milan in 1978, staging his first collection at La Permanente and opening a boutique on Via della Spiga the same year. In 1993 he crowned the house with the Medusa head, a symbol he recalled from a Roman mosaic floor he played on as a boy in Calabria.
The house remains defined by that Medusa emblem, sensual body-conscious tailoring and the loud baroque and animal prints that made Versace fashion's most unapologetically maximalist name.
