Salvatore Ferragamo
An Italian shoemaker founded in Florence in 1927 by Salvatore Ferragamo, once dubbed 'Shoemaker to the Stars' for his Hollywood clientele.
About Salvatore Ferragamo
Salvatore Ferragamo began making shoes as a boy in southern Italy, then emigrated to the United States, opening the Hollywood Boot Shop in 1923 and crafting footwear for stars like Mary Pickford and Gloria Swanson, which earned him the nickname "Shoemaker to the Stars." In 1927 he returned to Florence and founded the workshop that carries his name.
A trained anatomist of the foot, Ferragamo pioneered the cork wedge heel and steel shank support, innovations still felt today in a house celebrated for its Gancini hardware, artisanal shoemaking and covetable leather goods.
