Burberry
British heritage house founded in 1856, famed for its gabardine trench coat and iconic check pattern.
About Burberry
Thomas Burberry founded his eponymous house in Basingstoke, England, in 1856, and in 1879 developed gabardine - a hardwearing, breathable, water-resistant fabric that would become the foundation of modern British outerwear.
Adapted for British officers during the First World War, the Burberry trench coat became a design icon in its own right, while the brand's signature check, first used as a coat lining in the 1920s, has grown into one of fashion's most recognisable motifs.
